LGBT+ Family Coalition is looking for new members to join its board of directors

News

Would you like to get involved with the LGBT+ Family Coalition? Now is the time to submit your candidature to be a part of our board of directors!

Our year (2022-2023) is looking exciting!

Our 2022-2023 projects

  • We’ve started to work on developing philanthropic practices;
  • We’re putting in place new ways to better reach out to families in every region of Quebec, as well as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) families;
  • We’re beginning some fantastic projects to shine light on LGBT+ families and to celebrate our 25th anniversary!

What we are looking for

Sitting on the board of directors of the LGBT+ Family Coalition is a responsibility. Our board is a good match for you if:

  • You’re at ease with progress and all that change implies;
  • You believe in the principles of social justice, intersectionality, anti-racism, and inclusion;
  • You have time in your schedule for approximately eight (8) meetings during the year and are ready to get involved in the Coalition’s development in other ways as well;
  • You’re willing to share your professional skills and expertise with us to help with our governance, communications, and fund-raising;
  • You respect our values (equity, inclusion, kindness, solidarity);
  • You like making decisions as part of a team (finances, governance, strategic planning, and future projects).

What we are offering

We can offer a rich and humane experience to our administrators. It’s also an incredible opportunity for you to help us grow as an organisation and have a positive impact on LGBT+ parents and future parents, as well as our kids. Administrators have numerous opportunities to follow training sessions on several subjects concerning their role on the board and issues touching our communities, like governance, inclusive language, racism, trans identities, etc.

Members of the board responsibilities

Members of the board represent the Coalition and actively take part in furthering its mission. Here is a non-exhaustive list of their responsibilities:

  • Overseeing our general orientations throughout our activities and actions;
  • Making policy decisions;
  • Assuring our financial health;
  • Offering expertise and time in one of our sub-committees (ex. human resources, finances, communications, etc.);
  • Supporting the development of our monthly activities;
  • Supporting the development of projects of interest to LGBT+ families;
  • Representing the Coalition in different projects and concertation tables;
  • Committing to defend and promote the rights of our families, and to sensitize Quebec society to our realities and needs.

If you think you may be interested in getting involved, please submit your candidature before May 24th, 2022 to Mona at [email protected].

Parents AND future parents who are BIPOC and/or trans, non-binary and/or from various ethnocultural minority groups, as well as families who are living outside of large urban centres are particularly encouraged to submit their candidatures.
