25 years: a photo exhibit and a podcast

25th anniversary

The LGBT+ Family Coalition team is moved and excited to announce the organization’s 25th anniversary! 25 years for the Coalition is not just two and a half decades of existence for a community organisation. It’s 25 years of struggles for 2SLGBTQ+ rights. It’s 25 years of political advocacy. It’s the training and sensitization of a network of more than 50,000 professional allies in health, social services, and education. Thousands of families have been created thanks to our workshops, our member services and our tools. Countless 2SLGBTQ+ parents and children have found support, friends, or mutual aid at our activities.

Rather than a classic retrospective, the Coalition has chosen to present the varied stories of more than 30 families, because it is for these realities, for the tens of thousands of 2SLGBTQ+ families in Quebec, that the team works day after day. To delight your eyes and ears, the organization will launch a photo exhibit that will tour the province, as well as a podcast that will be available on all your favorite listening platforms. Through these stories, you will discover different experiences, rich perspectives, inspiring progress, and the struggles to come!

Photo Exhibit on tour in Quebec

Come and meet around thirty 2SLGBTQ+ families from different backgrounds and cultures. Through photographs and audio extracts, they will tell you their unique stories: single parent, two-parent, multi-parent families; adoption, in-clinic fertility treatments or at home inseminations, surrogacy, surprise pregnancies; biological families, extended families, chosen families; “out and proud” or more discreet families; religious, spiritual or atheist families… The LGBT+ Family Coalition proudly presents this diversity to celebrate its 25 years of struggle, love, hope, and past and future social change. Long live our community!

Each opening will be an opportunity to celebrate, as a community, our acquired rights, the multiple identities, and the intimate ties that unite our families. The events will offer speeches, animated activities for families, entertainment for young and old, snacks and drinks (with or without alcohol) and a daycare corner for children.

Podcast Pour moi, la famille : portraits de familles de la diversité sexuelle et de genre

Meet more than 30 2SLGBTQ+ families living across Quebec, through over 15 episodes. Coming from different backgrounds and cultures, each family delivers tells their own authentic story about their reality, allowing us to see what we have in common and brings us together, but also what makes each family unit unique. Initially created for 2SLGBTQ+ families, but also accessible to friends and allies, Pour moi la famille offers a journey through its thematic episodes: introduction to the vocabulary specific to 2SLGBTQ+ families, modes of access to parenting, gender-neutral parenting, transmission of values, culture, religion, etc. Finally, it should be noted that the Coalition has attached particular importance to ensuring that marginalized voices were given a platform. You will thus hear the testimonies, rarer in the public space, of BIPOC* families, queer families, as well as trans or non-binary parents.

All podcast episodes are available here.

*Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.
